Public Health News from Undergraduate Alumni Association

【Public Health & Our Community】

Dear alumni and friends,

The World Health Organization (WHO) has annually commemorated World No Tobacco Day on 31st May since 1987 in order to raise public awareness on the tobacco epidemic and the health impact casted by tobacco use. WHO stresses on any health and other risks caused by tobacco use, advocates policies and implementations for effective reduction in tobacco purchase and discourages the consumption of tobacco in any forms.

The theme of World No Tobacco Day 2021 is “Commit to quit”. Tobacco use is not only a risk factor which leads to non-communicable diseases such as Cancers and Cardiovascular Diseases, but also increases the risk of contracting COVID-19, its complications and deaths. For the details of World No Tobacco Day, please refer to the campaign webpage of WHO: https://www.who.int/zh/campaigns/world-no-tobacco-day
